Hectic Reception for Ngoketunjia Members of Parliament (MPs) in Yaoundé
By Polycarp Labah Nginyu in Yaoundé

Hon. Njingum Musa CPDM MP for Ngoketunjia North - Ndop and Hon. Banmi Emmanuel CPDM MP for Ngoketunjia South – Balikumbat were last Tuesday August 21, 2007 treated to an unprecedented civic reception in Yaoundé. Organised under the canopy of the Ndop Cultural and Development Association (NDECA), the Chamber of Agriculture, which played host to this occasion drew a mammoth crowd of natives of all the villages that make up Ngoketunjia division, the local chiefs who traveled all the way from Ndop, sympathizers and on lookers.

According to the NDECA President Pa John this was “ celebrating a political and economic victory coming two decades after since the sons and daughters of Ndop received Hon. Nyoh now of blessed memory” . He requested the new MPs to resurrect NDECA.

Fon Chafah XI of Bangolan, member of the ruling Cameroon People Democratic Movement – CPDM, Secretary General of North West Fons Union – NOWEFU and Spokesman for Ngoketunjia Fons at this ceremony said: ”Ngoketunjia has turned over a new page by choosing the right direction”. Turning to the new MPs he said: “We have given you 5 years and we are waiting if nothing is achieved we will seize it…I have no doubt, you will be equal to the task…Njingum epitomizes development and Banmi a square peg in a square hole…Victory is one thing and management of victory another, manage your victory very well so that it should not turn into a disaster.

Hon. Njingum on his part promised that he is a man of action and that this was a new era whose option is development oriented and assured that NDECA must be re-dynamised. On Parliamentary grants he said: “all will be transparently managed and owing to the limitations of the amount, we have to lobby for funds else where to ensure the development of our area.”

Hon. Banmi on his part was very bitter: “North West has suffered a lot especially Ngoketunjia for 17 years: looting, hatred, destruction, killings and false promises, we are going to show the people that we have come for real business. Our action on the field will prove that you never made a wrong choice. I assure my parents that I am going to parliament as a messenger and I mean it, you will see results…”

Governor Fai Yengo Francis of the Centre province himself son of the North West soil who chaired the occasion said: “Time has come; those on the fence should jump down and join the mainstream. I know the victory was difficult, we should work hard that next time it shouldn’t be difficult again. Ngoketunjia being a rural area, you must pull all your resources together and work in partnership so as to succeed. Let Ndop be one.

Ten traditional dance groups from ten villages in Ndop resident in Yaoundé did the animation.
